KITZ Corp. of America’s engineered services are specialized in-house capabilities where our team modifies standard catalog valves to meet customers’ unique requirements. From our new facility in Houston, Texas, we offer these advanced in-house valve modifications for highly technical applications.
Unlike third-party modifications, our engineered services are performed in-house at our U.S. facility, utilizing real OEM parts and maintaining the full manufacturer’s warranty. We also supply official KITZ inspection/material test reports. By choosing KITZ as your sole provider of valves and modification services, you can simplify your operations, preserve valve quality, and speed up lead times. When to Choose Engineered Services Over Standard Valves
Standard valves are sufficient for many applications, but sometimes they can fall short of meeting certain environmental and application requirements. Some of the most common challenges that standard catalog valves can’t solve are:
- The need for non-standard trim materials that can withstand corrosive media and aggressive fluids
- Specific temperatures or corrosion resistance needs that exceed specifications for standard valves
- Special cleaning requirements, such as oxygen and chlorine cleaning
At KITZ, our engineered services department can resolve all of these challenges and more. Our technicians can replace trim materials and components with OEM parts that withstand rigorous chemical exposure, heat, and/or specialty cleaning processes. We take care with every order to meet or exceed industry standards and our own quality assurance protocols. With every modification, our clients receive detailed documentation regarding the changed specifications, inspection or material test reports, and the full manufacturer’s warranty.
Our Valve Modification Capabilities
KITZ offers multiple modification options to transform standard valves into high-performance custom valve assemblies for use in extreme or critical operations.
How the Modification Process Works
The modification process starts with a complete understanding of your goals. Our inside sales teams and on-site engineers work together to determine if the requirements can be met by a standard valve or require a modified valve. If modification is the chosen course of action, our trained technicians will disassemble, modify, and reassemble the valve, followed by testing for quality and performance. We tag the part with a unique serial number for easy traceability before shipping it out with the modification documents.
Examples of Modifications We Do
Four of the most common engineering modifications we perform for valve products include the following:
- Special cleaning. We utilize a two-step automated cleaning process that guarantees a thorough, more consistent clean for valves used in critical oxygen or chlorine services. The valves first undergo pre-washing in a hot parts washer before being cleaned in an ultrasonic machine. This standardized process guarantees consistency and underscores our commitment to quality over profit. Other shops commonly clean valves by hand, which involves the risk of human error—technicians might miss hard-to-reach spots, experience fatigue, or make mistakes.
- Trim and bolt changes. For applications that demand more corrosion resistance, we can replace standard valve balls and stems with more corrosion-resistant parts. We can also change the valve’s body bolts and/or gland bolts to materials that provide enhanced strength or corrosion resistance.
- Actuation. For automated systems, we can integrate actuators to create custom valve assemblies ready for installation.
- Extensions. We can add valve extensions for better access in complex piping layouts.
Quality Testing
Our factories have been ISO 9001 certified since 1989. As part of our quality assurance protocols, we conduct in-depth testing, including positive material identification (PMI)-a form of non-destructive testing (NDT)-and extended pressure testing to guarantee that all modified valves meet performance requirements.
The KITZ Advantage
When you choose KITZ, you benefit from working with a single supplier and service provider with the technical backing and resources of a top-tier global manufacturer. We supply standard catalog valves and perform in-house cleaning, modifications, and integrations, so you never have to coordinate with multiple providers, face extra freight charges, or deal with unnecessary supply chain complexity. Our team quickly fulfills standard and modified orders with rapid lead times while maintaining the highest quality. Every modified valve comes with a unique serial number, an official KITZ inspection/material test report, and other essential documentation.
Industries & Applications
Some of the industries KITZ serves with valve engineering services include:
- Petrochemical. Aggressive and corrosive applications that require non-standard materials.
- Refineries. Downstream refining applications with valves 10” and under.
- Mechanical systems. Chilled water systems, including cooling towers and valves for hydronic piping.
